The story is told of a man who went into the world to look for the Church of Christ. But he could not find the Church. So he went back to the Church. He was shocked to find the world in the Church instead.

The Church of Christ is looking more and more like the world today. Look at the so-called “worship styles” in many churches today. They seem like “pop concerts” rather than worship services. You find the music, the dancing, the lingo, the lightings, the “audience participation” and sound engineers that you would normally find in a “pop concerts”. It is no longer possible to hold a simple and plain “worship service”. Instead you find truck loads of sound and lighting equipments that would require many hours to “set up” before a modern “worship service” could be held. It is costly to hold a modern style “worship service”.

But what is really the “worship” that God requires? According to the Holy Bible as seen in the examples of the Acts of the Apostles, true Christian worship service is plain and simple. No need to have expensive sound systems. In fact no need even for music.

The heart of Christian worship is the preaching of the Word of God. Not music. Not lightings. Not sound systems. Not the “worship teams” or the “backup singers”.

“So the faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the [preached] Word of God” (Romans 10:17).
